Interview Tetsutaka Sugawara. Part 1 https://youtube/watch?v=TJAiY7OfU8U&list=PLhA8wEKHvowmDkplop3l6xxjQqDSOhyOv Tetsutaka Sugawara: - I came to China in 1998 to explore the traditional Okinawan style of Karate-do Goju-Ryu. In Okinawa there are several styles of Goju-Ryu. One of them comes from the South-Chinese Kempo the other - a northern style from the province to Beijing (Peking). For a traditional Okinawan Goju-Ryu character southern Chinese style which is more common. We along with other famous martial artists went to the south of China Fuzhou City where he lived and studied the great master Kanryo Higaonna. There we met with kata Sanchin. This kata practiced in many Chinese schools. Santin involves 3 major phases - the maximum concentration of mind body and breath. Concentration plays an important role as in Aikido and Katori Shinto-ryu. It gives inner harmony develops muscles and energy. In Fuzhou I visited a few times there I first started practicing karate. Ive been studying this kind of martial arts and even though I can not yet say for sure about his true origins yet guess how it happened. In Fuzhou I also met with the masters of tai chi and invited them to Japan. Many of them live in Japan for more than 20 years. I have been studying and practicing tai chi and therefore can naturally combine traditional Chinese martial art Aikido and Katori Shinto-ryu.
