Intimacy With God Results in an Abundant Life ----------------------------------------------------- 1. We must address any obstacles to our experiencing intimacy with God. These nine lessons were designed to help you recognize and address the obstacles that may be limiting your intimacy with God. To experience intimacy with any person, we need a correct view of ourselves and of the other person. This is the primary reason why lessons three, Seeing ourselves as God sees us, and four, Getting to know your Heavenly Father, are so critical. Consider this question: Do you want a close relationship with someone who you think... a. Is untrustworthy? b. Does not care about you? c. Merely tolerates your presence? d. Gets mad at you when you fail? e. Loves you only when you perform well? You can complete this list with any of the false beliefs the Holy Spirit revealed to you about God in lesson four. You must address these false beliefs if you are going to experience God as He truly is. If you have an accurate view of God, you will desire intimacy with Him. Any false belief about God will limit your intimacy with Him, because it will give you a concept of God less than He really is. It is impossible for you to believe He is more loving than He is. He is love personified! Likewise, it is impossible for you to believe that He is more good, more holy, more forgiving, or more anything than He is. Consider this question: Do you want a close relationship with someone if you think... a. You are unacceptable? b. You are going to be rejected if the other person really gets to know you? c. You will never meet the other persons standards? d. You will condemned by the other person? You can complete this list with any of the false beliefs you identified about yourself from lesson three. Anyone of these beliefs will hinder you from developing an intimate relationship with God. Why is an intimate relationship with God so important? It is only within this relationship that you will experience abundant life--Gods quality of life which has been given to us through Christ.
