It brings to mind what I said about forager verses hunter thought process. Given similar amounts of skill, gathering is, in a good area, largely dependent on the effort put into it, while hunting depends on more factors that are beyond the hunters control. The fiscally conservative mindset is a gatherer mindset. It says that they worked hard for what they got, so screw the other guy (or gal), they can get their own berries if they work at it, while the fiscally liberal idea is more a hunters thought, emphasizing the luck factor and the need to share with others your good fortune, in the hopes they too will do so if they get lucky. No wonder there is such a divide; we are talking about wildly different strategies for food gathering that likely go back before humans were fully human. Unfortunately, as much as I agree with this statement, its really preaching to the choir. You arent going to convince a gatherer with this kind of reason, because for a gatherer it just aint true.
