It fell quickly, and it fell hard. We got more than an inch in - TopicsExpress

It fell quickly, and it fell hard. We got more than an inch in about four hours, according to my weather station. I woke up dreading going out to the barn, figuring we might be at last under water. But the pasture held! There are puddles in a couple of low spots but the pasture is still walkable! After the miserable December of 2012, when McKenzie died of cancer and the entire pasture was four inches of filthy water over four inches of soft mud and me with three horses to care for and no help ... this is much better. Theres nothing like losing your dog and falling again and again into the slop because of boot-sucking mud, day after day for weeks. Sold the glum red horse, donated the wonderful and charming Mr. Spotted Ass to the Sac PD where he is now the pride of the force as Officer Patrick. While Haggin really wants a buddy, that will wait for a good long time. I miss McKenzie, but the memories are turning from painful to sweet. Everyone is healthy. And the pasture is holding up. So grateful to Master Tree Care for truckload after truckload after truckload of free chips, to neighbors and friends ML and Joyce for tilling all the chips in, and mostly, to my friend and tenant Douglas Macdonald, for doG knows how many muckcarts full of chips layered and layered and layered again over all the pathways and low spots. Its a Christmas Miracle. Hope it holds.
