It has been a really upsetting and stressful 48 hours. While I was having dinner with my mother at a restaurant on Tuesday evening, she had what appeared to be a stroke or some kind of seizure. She could not speak or see. We called 911 immediately and within a few minutes, she recovered from the attack and was able to speak and comprehend and walk out with the paramedics. We sped her by ambulance to North Central Baptist Hospital where she has remained since about 8 p.m. Tuesday and has been undergoing numerous tests (MRI, CT scans, EEG, etc.) to ascertain what happened. Thankfully, all of her vital signs are great and she has been awake, alert, has had a normal appetite and has been actively taking part in everything - asking questions, etc. In fact, she is very much Mom in Charge, which Im very happy about! I have spent most of the past two days with her, and my brother and sister and sister-in-law have spent many hours with us, as well. Moms team of cardiovascular and neurological specialists is impressive. So far, they believe she either had a mini-stroke called a transient ischemic attack (TIA), which has left no damage, or possibly a neurological seizure of some sort. We will have some more precise answers by tonight, I think. I thank God that I was with her when the attack happened and that she wasnt alone at home or driving. I will admit, however, that the incident was the most frightening experience of my life! Please pray for Mom and our family as we search for answers and get on with fixing and managing whatever the diagnosis turns out to be.
