It is amazing to me how driven we are by cultural standards. True beauty has to be experienced. It should not be comparative. We are all, ultimately, humans. Why would a human being in one location have a different perception of beauty than in another location? It is a powerful statement to me that our opinions and ideals are not truly ours, but influenced powerfully by our environment. We have to sift through all kinds of cultural influence to even begin to figure out how we really feel, or think. Most sheep dont even bother. It is disturbing really. I also find it suspect that the article makes an assumption of what beauty looks like from place to place. Who got to decide which artist represents his country to do these? I sincerely doubt every American would agree the photoshop image represents their opinion. I personally like the before image.
