It is believed that God created the world in six days and took a rest on seventh day. His creations are hence supposed to rest on Sundays. Today is not a Sunday. But the streets of M.G Road and elsewhere looked as if it is more than a Sunday. Believe me, from Padma Junction in Ernakulam to Pandikudi in Fort Kochi, speed of my bike never went below 40 kmph. Yeah- today was super sunday of Keralites, the Hartal day. Political demi-gods of Kerala seems to be more powerful than the Biblical God. Streets are more busy on Sundays on which the God wants us to rest, than on Hartal day on which the political demi-gods wants us to stay inside our homes. Indian culture is not about taking rest, but about incessant activity. The concept of rest from work is an antithesis to Indian Philosophy. It is an irony that BJP, which is supposedly wedded to Indian-ness, are organizing Hartal, for whatsoever cause. To take rest from work, or to boycott work, is a right of an individual- but there is no right to force others to take rest or boycott. BJP has Zero presence in Government or in opposition of Kerala. Still, people are staying indoors and taking rest. We, especially Keralites, should introspect, why do we succumb to political forces ? We should understand 1. Political parties have no legal and moral right to force others to boycott work or travel and we have a moral duty not to succumb to political forces. 2. If most of us just ignore the Hartal, no Hartal will be successful. It is we who make them succeed. 3. Hartal will not meet any objectives attributed to it. Political parties who organize it knows it more than us. 4. Hartal is any other working day- treat it as such. Government should ensure the safety of public just like any other day. Hooliganism can not be in anyway justified in the name of Hartal.
