It is funny when we say let us keep tribal sentiments aside - TopicsExpress

It is funny when we say let us keep tribal sentiments aside because now it has become convenient to do so when has it not been about tribe in Nigeria? Why was it necessary to teach Ibo Hausa Yoruba and state that they are the dominant languages? because they were more in number?. I remember being in NYSC camp and participating in a play and it was centered around the afore mentioned tribes and i asked politely why do you have to mention them alone there are how many ethnic groups in Nigeria and the response was ehen what tribe are you I said bini and the reply was join yoruba you are closer I looked at the guy like i could have smacked his face. I f we will look beyond tribe then that should be deleted from the entire nation. Africa Magic should cease showing Hausa Yoruba or Ibo movies because we are one. this conversations must be encouraged history must be written and the lies told by A certain tribe must be addressed. As a Nigerian i could work outside Nigeria yet try working in a Government establishment which is not your home state. What about our universities that seemingly favor students from their own state? if tribe matters less why are certain government establishments filled with people from a particular part of the country?.If other tribes choose to boycott Dstv and insisted that every tribe be represented on Dstv will that make sense? thats how ridiculous it is right now if we will think as one then we must address these issues. If states must develop then the inhabitants of that state must learn to converse in English. I am not talking about the big corporations and companies I am talking about the women in the market. The small shops that woman that sells akara to me the bus conductor that assumes that everyone he meets is Yoruba. How he came to that conclusion or assumption I do not know. I have not said our indigenous languages should be scrapped far from it but if we must be the nation we plan to become the walls of tribalism must come down first for us to achieve this. The amazing thing is we get angry at racism but yet we do the same amongst ourselves in our own country, its amazing when people look at you and say oh you dont speak yoruba? like really do you speak Bini?
