It is said that love is unconditional, and this is true, but a relationship is not. Two people might love each other and never have a relationship. When we’re in a relationship we have certain expectations such as loyalty, trust, honour, respect, etc. Much the same way, God loves us unconditionally, but for us to have a relationship with Him, He expects us to choose Him, love Him, honour Him and be truthful to Him. We need to communicate with God in prayer and speak to our partner, by sharing our thoughts and concerns. We need to boast about how wonderful God is and, in a similar way, about our partner. No one is greater than God, but no human is more important than your partner and your children. Love for your child is unconditional, but the relationship is ever changing, and to maintain it, there must be mutual respect. Treat them with respect, explain decisions that affect them to them and give them a reason to respect you.
