It is somewhat rare these days to see a unanimous decision from the U.S. Supreme Court, but this was such a clear violation of statutory religious rights that Alito wrote a decision joined by the more liberal Justices, *and* Ginsberg wrote a concurring decision. While many may balk at the decision based on some discriminatory undertone that it is based on a man wanting to practice the Muslim religion, this is an important decision for any incarcerated person who wishes to practice their religion while behind bars. It is important for people to remember that not every person in prison is irredeemable, violent, or an other (whatever that might mean to you); and that by merely residing for a time behind bars, a person does not give up their Fundamental or statutory rights as an American, something people from all sides of the political spectrum should be able to agree on.
