It is the peoples right to know the risk. Phivolcs director Rene Solidum does his job well to inform the public adequately and repeatedly of the earthquake risk prevailing in Metro Manila. This frees him of any liability when the earthquake strikes. Remember in the aftermath of the deadly earthquake in the Italian city of L’Aquila in 2009, which registered 6.3 on the Richter Scale and killed more than 300 people, six scientists and a government official were sent to jail for six years after being found guilty of negligence and malpractice in their evaluation of the earthquake risk and in keeping the city population adequately informed of the imminent danger.
