It is with much sadness that the family of J.C. Vaught, Jr. announces his death on May 21, 2014. J.C. was born June 25, 1939 in Crowder, Oklahoma, and it was there he met his wife, Barbara Wininger. J.C. loved and provided for her for over fifty five years. During their life together they raised four daughters. In addition to being a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, J.C. enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening in his spare time. The family freezer still has fish and venison along with many vegetables from his garden. He grew delicious tomatoes, squash, okra, and zucchini the size of baseball bats. J.C. was also a member of the McAlester Bass Club in the 1970’s and 1980’s, winning many trophies. A proud man, J.C. always provided for his wife and children. He worked for W.A. Allford Marine and Pier 69 Marina as a registered Johnson boat motor mechanic. If you owned a boat in the 70’s and 80’s, you most likely knew J.C. He later worked for Tony Ashmore until he retired due to illness a little more than a year ago. J.C. never met a stranger and loved to tease family and friends. He had a quick wit and a great sense of humor. It was hard to get anything over on him, but when you did, he would easily laugh at himself. He could dish it out and take it with the best of them; in fact, he was one of the best. He will be missed by his four daughters who all looked up to him: Terrie and husband, Mark Burton of Ontario, Canada, Tammie Herron of McAlester, and twins: Toni Vaught and special friend, Lana Boyce of Tulsa, Traci Carr of Stidham. J.C. was Papa to Melodie, Amy, Hunter and Jared and Erin and Laura Burton who will all miss him very much. In addition, J.C. had three great-grandchildren: Luke, Kaylynn, and Autumn. He and his late wife, Barbara, also had three furry children: Sophie, Sambo, and Mango. J.C. was also survived by his older sisters: Myrtle Perry and Cletis Nail, both of McAlester. He leaves behind sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other special family and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of over fifty five years: Barbara Wininger Vaught, his parents: Joe Sr. and Josie Vaught, in-laws: N.T. Dutch and Foy Wininger, a sister: Willie Chasteen, brothers-in-law, and a son-in-law: Mike Carr. The family will receive visitors from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Bishop Funeral Home on Saturday, May 24. Private services will be held at a later date at the Crowder Cemetery. J.C.s daughters would like to thank Pat Brasuell at Sooner Home Health Care for her kind, loving, and professional services during his illness. She always made him smile when she came to visit and she was very special to him.
