It seems to me that many Christians are under the false impression that the New Testament was full of completely new ideas brought by Jesus. Quite the opposite is true. The New Testament is full of very old ideas which are replete throughout the Old Testament, except now they are connected with the living Messiah who lives and reigns in His peoples hearts and actions. But even this was not a new idea. It is ALL OVER the Hebrew scriptures. It is rather the full revelation of very old ideas and plans which makes the New Testament New. I think that because we miss this, we miss a lot of things.
