It started out as a simple birthday wish for a great old friend and then I spontaneously started reliving The Glory Days Ha! We played baseball with a football mentality. It was war! So many memories and stories. On and off the field. Wouldnt change a single one. You were easy to catch. You hit the mitt damn near every pitch. Thats why I could talk the ump into giving us 2 inches outside. then 2 inches inside and then if he would go with the high fastball, brother we were in business, because nobody could touch that heat! Ha! I could go on...Now Eric Parson (whew!) That dude could throw hard too and had the craziest cut on it. You never knew where it was heading. And at least 3 or 4 times a game, he would nod yes for the curve and throw a heater. Pisses catchers off! Ready for a certain speed and downward break and get a faster speed and catcher mask height and it gets on ya quick and makes you look silly! Heard from Bobby Bird Mady yesterday. What another great pitcher to catch. And the most gentlemanly player on the field. Always admired that. He was the master of changing speeds and arm angles and hitting spots with all pitches. And so damn tall it looked like he was shoving the ball in your face. So close to you. Mark Rhea was similar to you, but a lefty. What a fastball! It would just explode and he had that deceptive delivery where you couldnt quite pick up the ball out of his hand right away. And a drop off 12-6 curve. I could go on.
