It was GREAT to meet today with the four classes of St. Thomas Leadership students. These students will be directly involved in helping with our first ever Month of Lunches campaign to support the work of Madame MICHAELLE DE VERTEUIL, a former St. Thomas teacher and Order of Canada recipient. Because of one woman with a dream, THREE THOUSAND students per year are enrolled in the TWELVE schools she established in les Abricots, Haiti. St. Thomas adopted one of these schools five years ago. Because of our support, schooling is provided to our students up to Grade 9 instead of just Grade 4. What is new THIS year is that we will be directly implicated with fighting hunger in the poorest region of the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Every $10 raised will buy each child a MONTH OF LUNCHES. For most of students, the food they receive at school is the only meal they have each day. We ALL have a chance to make a difference and support an educational network that has proven itself successful for over 40 years.
