It was great to be able to take my mom to Cirque du Soleil again - TopicsExpress

It was great to be able to take my mom to Cirque du Soleil again this year because shes demonstrably their number one fan. She hooted and hollered and clapped along and stomped her feet in rhythm with the music, even while the stiff young people to either side of us barely clapped for anything. In my youth I would have been embarrassed, but Ive reached an age where I silently grinned and thought Momma, have a blast. The music was terrific - it was awesome to see them return to a featured cirque-style rock and roll singer, kind of like Dralion - the vocalist had the perfect sound for this sort of show and the ladies on guitar were killing it - thats right, a lot of ladies... in fact, they tout this cast as being 70% female! On the ride home we compared notes and agreed that we were disappointed with the overall production, as it lacked a strong and coherent storyline and some of the bits were unremarkable compared to what weve seen in the past - the kind of stuff that made us love Cirque in the first place. I wont drop any spoilers, but theres a one-woman balancing act in Amaluna that will unexpectedly thrill you, even if youve seen it before on Americas Got Talent. The clown this year was entertaining and as good as any weve had before, but she ran two time-consuming schticks and in English.... it felt like they were vamping for time, or covering for an act that was down, and the overall show ran fast - we were home less than 3 hours after the event started, so for us Amaluna felt like Cirque Lite. And were still glad we went and I look forward to bigger shows in the future. #amaluna #cirque
