Its Data Wednesday. Here are your top ten taxpayers in the City of Bangor and the rough amount of tax they pay: 1. Bangor Historic Track (i.e. Casino/Hotel/Raceway); $2.35 million 2. General Electric; $1.30 million 3. Bangor Mall; $1.24 million 4. Emera (i.e. Bangor Hydro, RIP); $810k 5. Inland Western (i.e. Broadway Shopping Mall); $616k 6. Wal Mart; $451k 7. QV Realty Trust (i.e. Hogan Road Shopping Plaza); $336k 8. Bangor Gas; $328k 9. Harvest Sunbury; $312k 10. Grant Trailer Sales; $294k As I mentioned two weeks ago, we as a city and state need to get out ahead of a changing retail market. As more and more things are purchased online, the viability of brick and mortar retail changes and with it, our property tax structure. That is one reason why keeping a portion of the sales tax and meals and lodging tax in the community where it was generated is so important. I wish they realized that in Augusta.
