Its NOT daft to mourn Deirdre, writes Libby Purves. She says it isn’t daft to mourn a little for someone you never met: not when they played, with skill, consistency and wit, part of a story that has run alongside your own life for so long. Do you feel sadness about the death of people you never met? Do you get caught up in emotion when state figures, real actors or fictional characters die.
