Its always wonderful going for YFP-SD trainings. I always find myself being surrounded by the brightness of my fellow participants. The 18th training at ICA today though was exceptionally bright as Xiu Hao, Linda, Serene and Jonathan Chang coincidentally wore bright orange shirts, with the latter in particular looking like a life-sized mascot for Stabilos highlighters. Nonetheless, we finally got a chance to dance our heart out today. Those 3 A-level juniors Jon, Clamus and Soopeng danced as though Econs had driven them to the brink of lunacy. Sometimes theres a fine line between enthusiasm and pure siao. The rest of us in D1 sportingly played along. :P You know, the thing that stood out for me most today was ymd chiefs sharing about not losing sight of our dreams. Its something Ive been stressing with my fellow ASDians; its only when you have a passion that youre working towards will you wake up with a spring in your step every single day, even if you have to confront the monotony of your daily struggles with work, examinations, etc. Especially for us who walk the A-level route, were here precisely because we dont really know what we want to do. And that is what brings me to the next point. Ymd chief was sharing that apparently theres this saying: 坐在白马上的不一定是王子, 也有可能是唐僧。 Translated, it roughly means that the person riding on a white stallion might not necessarily be a prince charming, it could also be Master Tripitaka (a monk from the chinese classic Journey to the West). Its the first time ive ever heard it, but essentially it conveys a life lesson weve all heard before: What you perceive to mean as something may not necessarily be so; what you may think is good for you might not actually be. It therefore entails that by single-mindedly basing our life on the unchanging nature of the Gohonzon will we then have the wisdom to make the best of our external influences, which are in themselves neither good nor bad. This way, youll eventually discover your mission in life. Nic Ang certainly gave a great demonstration of single-minded determination via his relentless pursuit of pineapple-jam biscuits during break time. Sadly, there was none today. Just one more thing, when ymd chief asked us who had no dance background or did not really like dancing, there were many hands that went up, including mine. Yet it occurred to me we were all still HERE for training. I believe im definitely not the only one doing this for the people around me. To quote Kakashi sensei from a recent episode of the anime Naruto Shippuden: Even if it’s someone they used to make fun of, when people see someone trying twice as hard as others, they instinctively start wanting to lend a hand. That’s because people eventually learn that they only have each other to fill the holes in their hearts. He who then possesses a heart filled with such comrades, is truly powerful. Comrades - people bound together by a shared philosophy. #YFPmusings
