Its awesome that we as a culture are eager to celebrate the defying of meaningless gender norms in the form of women and girls who excel in ‘traditionally masculine spaces,’ but that doesnt and shouldnt mean that we should conversely tell the women and girls whose freely chosen interests do trend more towards the pink aisle that it somehow makes them lesser, or anti-modern, or automatically buying into something and being controlled. Forgot to share this during the holidays, but this is a really interesting video. I think sometimes nuance gets lost when I discuss/share articles on gendered toys and games. Its not that Im on an anti-pink agenda. I dont personally wear much pink, but as a color its quite nice. What Im not a fan of is the pink/blue gender divide pushed on kids from a young age, and the pink aisle personifies that norm. If a young girl gravitates towards pretty pink princesses naturally, thats just fine! Pink isnt the problem - traditionally feminine things are not bad. I just want to ensure the girl in question has a chance to check out Autobots, too.
