Its been a LOT of years since I was ever in The Resuscitation Ward - TopicsExpress

Its been a LOT of years since I was ever in The Resuscitation Ward or AAU at Hull Royal Infirmary.... last night I went there - just to collect a family member - and I was absolutely APPALLED at the state of the NHS!! I was directed to a corridor where said family member would be, and I arrived to find a queue - yes a QUEUE of ill people in BEDS in the corridor waiting to be seen by medical staff. Speaking briefly with one lady, I was told that she had been there since 7pm (It was now gone 11pm) and the lady further down arrived at 12 noon and still had not been seen. The staff appeared to be struggling and disorganised, and the space they had to work within just wasnt sufficient - several times I heard nurses uttering apologies for waits but they were struggling to cope. One elderly lady in a wheelchair was very clearly confused and frustrated at having been abandoned next to the nurses station where people were having to squeeze past her... several times - while I waited to get a nurses attention to find out where I needed to be - this elderly lady tried standing up out of her wheelchair and was not noticed by the nurses until I had to prevent the lady from collapsing on the floor because she couldnt walk. Shocking. It does not instill much confidence for my later years... how much IS private healthcare these days?
