Its been a few days we know! But we have been doing lots of adventuring and little wifi connecting. Much to Bek and my disappointment we have not had wifi AND we have been residing very muchly in the bush. Another place we like to call bear country. Bears have become a somewhat mythical creature used to make tourists tidy up there campsites. We have not seen one! Which is simply killing the boys. There have been a few highlighting moments of the trip for the boys over the past 4 or so days. Ill bring them to your attention shortly. 8/9/2014 We left Nelson for a trip to Radium Hot Springs it was a cold and rainy day where we were totally excited for our hot springs swim. Let me paint a picture for you - we would park up at the RV park, take a short stroll to the natural hot spring, relax in it!, then on a short stroll back to the RV warm and ready for dinner. NO! No that didnt happen. We arrived at the RV Park which was FREEZING - we thought it was 500mtr down the path - NO - it was 3kms. So we thought lets ride our bikes and get there quicker - yeh you can only ride 80mtr into the 3000mtr as its mostly a hike up hill. Emma starts to panic as we are in a cold drizzly bear climate which could end in death. And no bear was getting my baby. It was a tense emotional 3km walk. We got to the hot spring - 1) it was not at all a natural hot spring in looks - more like the memorial pool with hot spring water being fed to it. Still nice Im not going to lie - it sat at a comfortable 39degrees. 2)we had to pay! Another thing to pay for. I REFUSED to walk that trail back. Everyone agreed and we waited 20 minutes for a taxi to come from the next town and paid $35 to go 5 minutes up the road. We were not walking tho. Happily we went and returned to the RV - the boys went and got the bikes we left at the 50mtr mark. It was now 730pm and Manny was insane from exhaustion, we were hungry to it was decided we leave this RV park and move to get ribs and check in at the fancy smancy RV park down the road. The ribs were yum, the bed was warm and we had a laundry for the next day as we were officially down to our last grundy undies. 9/9/2014 IT WAS FREEZING THIS MORNING and raining. Bone aching cold. Might I add its technically still summer here until 25/9/14. After 4 loads of washing and drying and folding that washing - we were off. Off to Banff - as we drove out we realised just above our campgrounds it had started snowing - no wonder we were feeling fresh. 20 minutes in and playing with snow on the side of the road we jumped back into the car and Will Will the designated driver ridiculously realised we were on empty. So turned around we did and we got the goods. Back on the road we were off to Banff again. We made it! It was BEAUTIFUL - I am 99% sure its the most beautiful location in the world. This was when we (Bekki & I) made the decision we were living there for a ski season. We stopped at starbucks to research with free wifi where rentals were - first problem - Banff has a reside only as necessary clause which prevents you from living there unless your employed. We were directed to Canmore - 10minutes down the road to live. We would research this the next day. For now we need to defrost and cook dinner before we froze. 10/9/2014 We ventured to Canmore and fell in love also. It was also freezing there and this was where we learnt through doing a spot of shopping that most winters here get to -40 degrees. Perfect! We still wanted to live here... Crazy I know. But its just that beautiful. We found a rental in Canmore the perfect apartment - all inclusive too! Across from the Canmore hospital too so any ski field injuries are close by. We went and celebrated over dinner and drinks in Banff then froze our butts off getting home. 11/9/2014 Today we were leaving Banff for Jasper. On our way we stopped at Lake Louise and seen its beauty in the flesh. As were standing there it started to snow. Amazing & COLD. The Fairmont at Lake Louise was stunning and the history between that and the lake itself was pretty crazy. Crazy was also two people diving into Lake Louise in the snow. Lunatics. From here we left for Jasper - off we went! Chris is chief navi and clearly let hes guard down as we drove for almost 2 hours and discovered we were going in literally the OPPOSITE direction. Annoyed to say the least! Chris however was the most disappointed in himself and we could see him beating himself up. Now was not the time for jokes and it was a quiet car ride for the next hour or so. We werent going to make it to Jasper so we fell short at the Columbian Ice Fields where we to froze that night. It was crazy cold. This was however our first free night as opposed to having to pay for our RV park. Chris and Will were very impressed. 12/9/2014 On our way still to Jasper we stopped at the Columbia Icefield where we were taken onto a glacier to walk around and see the amazing feet in mother nature up front. It was actually too much to comprehend in size and enormity. It was however funny to see asians 100% not understand ANY of the dangers explained by the guides and continue to walk over the safe area onto the dangerous parts of the glacier where the crevice (some 30metres deep) where there are still 9 bodies missing and 5 weeks ago they discovered a body that had been missing for the past 19 years. We also stopped at the Athabasca Falls which were unreal. After this adventuring we stopped at Jasper had some bevies at the local brewing company and Bek and I got drunk off two cocktails - they went straight to our head. After having to wait close to 30minutes in a line up to check in to the Whistler Camp Ground (still in Jasper) we eventually got in! They had bear and elk warnings EVERYWHERE. Yet the boys still didnt see any. :( 14/9/2014 Edmonton was our goal today! We arrived after a 4 hour drive and relaxed by doing another 2 loads of washing and having scrumptious lasagne (frozen I might add) and homemade potato salad by yours truly. Tomorrow is what Bek and I are excited for - we are heading to the biggest shopping mall in the northern hemisphere with over 800 shops, skating rink, water park, water slides, theatres, cinemas and so so much more. We may never leave. Over and Out! Em xx Pics to follow
