Its been a while (totally because of reasons on my end) since Ive been able to add some new members to the group, and I am really happy and excited to be back welcoming a new collection of zoo-loving photographers and Zoo Global staff to our growing community. Sara Applegate no longer needs to feel so alone in the group as I am happy to finally be adding her husband Orlando Smith to our ranks. Weve been chatting for a while about this and I truly appreciate their patience with me. Some of us may have already stood shoulder to shoulder with Karen Wilson-Bonnar at some Early Hours when she came in to take some photos, but now we will finally be able to say hi to her by name. Timbrely Pearsley is one of those photographers I get really happy about because she cautiously asked to join thinking she might not be good enough. I should show her some of my awesomely blurry overhead bird feet images. Once I saw her Flickr images I knew there was nothing for her to worry about and that she would be a great fit for the group. See for yourselves: flickr/photos/rbeforee/sets/72157647652519757/ Lsa Photog has been wanting to join the group from way back, but for certain reasons had to put it off until now (having to wait even longer for me to contact her again). She has already shot with so many from our group that Im surprised she didnt just become a member through osmosis, especially since she already has her button. Stephanie Hilz frequents both parks with the Pacific Photographic Society so Im sure she knows her way around the exhibits as well as some of the rest of us do. Angel Vemich has also been waiting patiently to be welcomed to the group. She visits both parks often, enjoying her trips along with her family. I have been saying hi to Teri Middleton, a well-liked volunteer at the Zoo, for a long time now and I am really glad that shes asked to finally join our throng. She should feel right at home with all the friends she already has here. Mary Warren has been with the Zoo for a dozen years now, the last seven with Security. That means that we may need to start curbing our mischievous urges. ;) It should be interesting to get some of her perspectives of the Zoo. In Chris Hokenson were get another terrific Tour Bus Operator at the Zoo. I think there might be just one or two left who arent members. Yet. Its recruiting time. Rochelle Willison has worked in a variety of areas at the Zoo, but currently can be found caring for the primates in Sun Bear Forest, including those amazing lion-tailed macaques as well as the cool new aye-ayes on Bear Canyon along Center Street. But more importantly, she can now add that she helps the primates in our group, too. Intemission: photo caravans, behind-the-scenes safaris and cart/tram tours. Welcome back. Speaking of caravans and tours at the Safari Park, today we get to welcome a terrific threefer from the Wildlife Education/Safari Experiences Department with Steven Wade, Jayme Peterson and Victoria Watkinson, all of whom can be found driving and educating folks like us around on tours and helping us better understand the incredible importance of wildlife conservation through living, breathing examples. Im super excited to be adding Susie Jones Ekard, Manager of the Animal Training Department at the Safari Park which includes the Frequent Flyers bird show and the Cheetah Run. (Thanks for the awesome recommendation, Clark!) Im also happy to be adding Marcia B Redding as our next honorary member. She was a mammal keeper at the Safari Park, most recently with the okapi, lions and tigers. She also worked at the zoo for 5 years giving her a total of 26 years of animal care and devotion. Thanks to everyone who asked to join us but had to wait for me to contact them. I really appreciate everybodys patience and look forward to meeting you all, some again, others for the first time, and to seeing what you will be sharing with us, be it photos, comments or Likes.
