Ive never had complaints about the DMV -- I know, I complain about - TopicsExpress

Ive never had complaints about the DMV -- I know, I complain about everything else so how is that possible?! But again today, pleasant experience, everyone is nice, and I might go back there for lunch tomorrow! :) Loved the cube with one of those autographed star pics you always see in the car-washes and dry cleaners! Apparently in LA, celebrity can have its benefits even at the DMV, especially if youre the always ridiculously over-fake-and-baked John-Paul Lavoisier from One Life To Live, Pete Johnson. Cute and sweaty hipsters, Kimberly Ray Jessup! And a display of clever personalized plates! Most importantly, when I told the friendly DMV clerk that I didnt receive my renewal notice because my mail was being held and forwarded when it wouldve gone out, and further mentioned that I hadnt been driving the car since the registration expired as its currently being repaired out in Palm Springs (which is a WHOLE NOTHER story about how *apparently* you should maybe pay attention to those Caution High Winds -- High-Profile Vehicles Use Extreme Caution signs -- thank God for Progressive Flo!), I truly was just making conversation since the website and DMV make it very clear even if you dont receive the notice, its your responsibility to know when your registration is due and to get it done on time. So when she says, so you werent driving it when it was expired?, just fill out this form, write a sentence about the mail and the car being in PS, and sign it, Im thinking WTF -- is she saying there wouldve been a fine for driving it with expired plates even if I didnt get caught?! But then she says, that way we can just get rid of that nasty $133 late fee, Im sure you can find something better to spend that on??!! The DMV now forgives late fees as long as you have an excuse?! (Or 2 in this case!) And the cherry on top was I knew there were 2 parking tickets I forgot to pay that doubled, i.e. $300 total / the biggest ripoff in LA/WeHo this side of identity theft -- and once they double (after a ridiculous 21 - not 30! - days), they dont go up any further. Well I assumed these would pop up and need to be paid before renewing my registration, as is procedure here. Which was fine - I was gonna pay them when necessary, and not a day sooner. Well I was surprised to go online last night and see no mention of them, and then today at the end of our lovely transaction she says, Oh and heres the receipt for the old tickets you paid. (Um,... I didnt pay them...) I mean, Oh yeah - thanks! I
