JUST FOR TODAY, I will do the unusual thing and gain a fresh perspective to life. Indeed, I will travel along the road less travelled and view landscapes that Ive not seen in ages. Is it not true that, recently, I seem to be taking myself too seriously? Is it not true that I am beginning to take the great things, and wonderful people in my life for granted? Have I seen so much sunlight that I can no longer see the beauty in darkness? Have I so savored and relished rich food that I can no longer imagine how painful hunger pangs can be? Is my purse now filled with so much gold that I can no longer see beyond my own acquisitive proclivities to possess more, and even more? Am I now so blessed by my Creator that I no longer place grateful premium on more blessings? How did I get to the tragic point where I now stand in righteous judgment of my fellow being? How did I lose touch with the stark realities of human existence? Today, I shall rouse myself from my slumber of ignorant insensitivity and step into the wisdom of empathy. Indeed, I shall turn my safe and secure world on its head, and see life from another lens. Today, I shall ask my chauffeur to vacate the drivers seat. Then, installing him grandly in my own corner of the car, and myself in the driving seat, I shall fasten my seat belt and rev down the driveway, savoring the thrilling power of the engine. Today, I will walk up to my neighbor and offer to mow his lawn for free. Today, I will roll up my sleeves, walk with purpose to the kitchen sink and happily do the dishes, while my spouse puts up her feet to watch her favorite soap. Today, I will drive up to an unknown church, and offer to sweep the floor, and dust the pews. This morning, I will surprise my son with a monetary gift. Later today, I will walk up to him and request his financial assistant to buy the evening paper. And when he gapes at me in surprise, I will calmly take the money and teach him that giving and receiving are two sides of the same coin! Today, I will gleefully turn convention on its head and invite my boss out to lunch! And at lunch, I will listen with rapt attention as he avails me with the wisdom of a boss! Tonight, I will refuse to retire to bed until the clock peals at the midnight hour, just so that I can see what the other side of midnight looks like. Today, I will simply be a free spirit. I shall pick up my favorite novel and climb the nearest tree, and settling down on a sturdy branch, I shall view life through a monkeys eyes and shake my head in wonder. ACTION EXERCISE Today, sit for a moment, and refusing to dwell on the issues and problems of your life, simply thank your Creator for the gift of life!
