JUST ONE DAY BEFORE THE START OF THE 2014 HYDROQUIP KINGS of WANNEROO. With just one day before practice begins on Friday for the Hydroquip Kings of Wanneroo and the final round of the Australian Sidecar Championship everything is in place for what will be an outstanding three days of motorcycle racing promoted by the MCRCWA. As previously stated Wayne Maxwell (Champions Ride Days Honda CBR 1000RR) will most likely be the man to beat, but the very fact that he is on the Champions bike rather than his Team Honda machine will make for a more level playing field for all of the local riders. Cameron Stronach, coming off back to back titles in the State Superbike Championship and Anthony McFadden (MY Carebook BMW S 1000) who won the title when it was part of the country race circuit in 1988, will be taking the fight right up to Maxwell, along with Ben Stronach (Holdfast Hydraulic & Ind Solutions Kawasaki ZX-10) who is a past winner of the prestigious event will be going all out to try and win a third Kings Crown having won back to back titles in 2005 & 2006. Adam Senior (Boreclean Suzuki GSX-R 1000) is another rider who will be keen to stamp his authority on the event, his father Peter won the event three times back in the 70s. Colin Cameron (Causeway Kawasaki ZX-10), Glenn Lowe (Relines Australia/VRT Yamaha R1), Leigh Boujos (Kawasaki ZX-10), Steve Chittendon (Rockingham Powersports Honda CBR 1000RR), who will come into his own if the weather is anything but perfect and LUbi Safranek (Helmet House BMW S 1000) will add some firepower to the event and make sure the 2014 King of Wanneroo really earns his win. The Coote brothers are returning to WA to take up the challenge and will be riding loan bikes courtesy of Paul Cox and Steve Mitchell, both are unknown quantities at the Superbike level but are very capable riders who have had outstanding seasons on the East Coast. There is a strong support entry across all the classes from Supersport, Clubman 600 & 1000, 125GP, 250 Production, which will feature Brandon Demmery, and the Juniors. The SIdecar Championship has been hotly contested all season and all of the main players have made the trip West to take on the cream of the Sidecar fraternity in WA. Both championships are very close affairs with the top three in each class covered by a handful of points. The title will be going East but dont be surprised if the round winner is from WA. Newly crowned State Champions Murray Stronach/Joanne Thompson have been the ones to beat all season, and Murray has been the King of Wanneroo- SIdecars on no less than six occasions, so he sure knows what it takes to win the event. Two WA outfits went East for the first round and both came away having scored good points, I speak of Jero Joyce/Corey Blackman and Des Harvey.Gary Cushnahan. So with seventeen outfits on the grid the action wont be for the faint hearted. So make the effort to get up over the weekend to support the local and Interstate road racers and watch some of the bets action on two and three wheels the State has to offer.
