James Yap calls out lethargic Purefoods: Tapos na yung Grand Slam Members of the Purefoods Star Hotshots were awarded their Grand Slam rings on Wednesday, but the Alaska Aces soon issued them a reality check that their crown is once again up for grabs. The team, which won the last four PBA championships as the San Mig Super Coffee Mixers, got plaster by the Aces, 93-73, in their first game in the 2015 Philippine Cup. Purefoods looked lethargic for most of the game, committing 23 turnovers to hand Alaska the easy win. Lahat ng team kami ang target e, said superstar James Yap, the lone bright spot for the Hotshots with 16 points. So kung mag-re-relax kami, kakainin kami ng buhay talaga. The two-time PBA Most Valuable Player said it was time to forget about past glories. Tapos na yung Grand Slam e. Panibagong conference na, bagong season, he added. The team played without key big man Marc Pingris, who is still resting after his grueling Gilas Pilipinas stint. Yap said its up to the other guys to adjust to Pingris absence. Ever since naman malaking bagay si Ping, he said. Pero deserve naman ni Ping na magpahinga. Ang dami niya namang naitulong sa team. Kami nakapagpahinga, siya hindi. So siguro pagpahingahin muna natin. Purefoods lost another player in the second half of the match when Ian Sangalang hurt his knee. Sangalang stayed in the bench for a while but went back to the dugout to get treatment. Yap said that all of the members of the team should step up to cope with the absence of key players. Dito lalabas yung character nung team, he said. Kailangan may mag-step up. Hindi lang isa, kailangan lahat kami mag-step up.
