Jammu................. Led by Jammu Mahanagar District President Rajesh Gupta, BJP activists drawn from all the five mandals of the district held a massive protest against the State government for discriminating with Jammu region in matters related to release of sugar to ration depots for consumption of poor consumers. They also burnt the effigy of the state’s coalition government amid slogans against government and its CAPD department. Rajesh Gupta, while charging the state government of adopting different yardsticks for supply of sugar through depots, said that the consumers of Jammu are denied sugar for the last over two months while the same is being released in Kashmir. He said that such an attutide of the government has once again proved that it continues to discriminate with Jammuites despite tall claims of treating all the three regions equal. Rajesh Gupta said that CAPD department is trying to mislead the consumers of Jammu by saying that the sugar has been released in Kashmir in view of the Ramzan, which is not justified. He asked the CAPD department to explain whether the holy month of Ramzan is observed in valley only and not in Jammu or Ladakh. Rajesh Gupta said that our neighbouring states have been helping the poor consumers by making available other food items alongwith atta, rice and sugar in depots and unfortunately our government is even withdrawing the items which were available for decades. He asked the government to shed its policy of ill treatment to Jammu and immediately direct the department to release sugar for Jammu consumers failing which the coming days may witness more anger, more resentment and more protests. District General Secretary Sanjay Baru said that the poor consumers are already facing hardships on account of price rise and non release of sugar through depots is adding more financial burden on them. He said that the government should extend a helping hand to the poor consumers but here it is working entirely on opposite approach, which is very unfortunate. Prominent among those who took part in protest included Shiv Kumar Gupta, Munish Sharma, Er. Ghulam Ali Khatana, Vikram Randhawa, Vinay Gupta, Dinesh Gupta, Romesh Sharma, Rita Jamwal, Surinder Choudhary, Praduman Singh, Ayodhya Gupta, Kuldeep Kandhari, Tarseem Choudhary, Sat Pal Choudhary, Surinder Bhagat, N.D.
