January 21, 1999: The great smoky blues master, CHARLES BROWN dies of heart failure at the age of 76. His tremendous career began in the mid-40s, playing piano and singing for Johnny Moores Three Blazers. He left the Blazers in 48 and pursued a very successful solo career, scoring two enormous #1s with Trouble Blues and Black Night. The hits stopped coming by the mid-50s, but he came roaring back to huge crowds and lots of appreciation and critically acclaimed albums during the 80s and 90s.
