Jay Dees words for the day, how things are related to eachother Read them, understand them and know roughly as much as I know ......... Solar flare — A solar flare is a violent explosion in the Suns atmosphere with an energy equivalent to tens of millions of hydrogen bombs. Solar wind — A solar wind is a stream of charged particles (i.e., a plasma) which are ejected from the upper atmosphere of a star. Solar radiation — Solar radiation is radiant energy emitted by the sun, particularly electromagnetic energy. Magnetosphere — A magnetosphere is the region around an astronomical object in which phenomena are dominated or organized by its magnetic field. Ionosphere — The ionosphere is the part of the atmosphere that is ionized by solar radiation. It plays an important part in atmospheric electricity and forms the inner edge of the magnetosphere. Earths magnetic field — Earths magnetic field (and the surface magnetic field) is approximately a magnetic dipole, with one pole near the geographic north pole and the other near the geographic south pole. The locations of the magnetic poles are not static but wander as much as 15km every year. The two poles wander independently of each other and are not at directly opposite positions on the globe. Geomagnetic storm — A geomagnetic storm is a temporary disturbance of the Earths magnetosphere. Geomagnetic reversal — A geomagnetic reversal is a change in the orientation of Earths magnetic field such that the positions of magnetic north and magnetic south become interchanged.
