Jennifer L Ramirez posted Gladys Porter Zoo response to our post: We have received messages from many of you on FaceBook regarding a photo, which was posted on another FaceBook page, of a man taking a photo of a child on one of our Galapagos tortoises. Entry into the exhibit was done without permission and without zoo staff supervision. Zoo administrators are reviewing our surveillance cameras to see if we can identify the individual who brought a small child into the Galapagos tortoise exhibit. However, on a pleasant note, all of the Galapagos have been checked and are doing fine. Fortunately, we heard of no instances of a bite to a small child, so it looks as though both tortoise and child remain unharmed. It is also good to see how many people are concerned about the health of our animals, the need to respect them, and the reason for fences. Barriers serve two purposes here: keeping the animals contained and out of harms way, and keeping people safe and out of harms way. Nothing good happens when those barriers are crossed without authorization. Thanks to everyone for your concern.
