The Week 14 matchup between the New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings features two teams looking to build a brighter tomorrow. We’ve got the fantasy projections for you courtesy of numberFire. New York Jets While running back Christopher Ivory has been the more dependable fantasy option in New York for the majority of the season, it was veteran Chris Johnson who had a bigger game in Week 13 against the Miami Dolphins. Johnson rushed for a season-high 105 yards on 17 carries. It was an impressive stat line because it came against a good defense, but it was also quite surprising because Johnson hasn’t rushed for more than 69 yards in any other game this season. It would be hard for him to repeat his performance last week or for fantasy owners to count on it at least, so as Johnson steps up against another pretty good defense in Minnesota, it would be hard to count on him beating his fantasy projections for two straight weeks. The only other threat in the Jets offense is wide receiver Percy Harvin. The term threat should be used loosely here, because he can only do so much with Michael Vick or Geno Smith at quarterback. Smith only attempted 13 passes last week, so the fact Harvin only caught one for six yards isn’t really his fault. There’s no doubt that if the Jets had a Pro Bowl quarterback, Harvin could be a star fantasy player in any given week; right now it would be hard for anybody to do. Minnesota Vikings It’s looking more and more like wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson is a bust. Believe it or not there was a time when he was drawing comparisons to Randy Moss because of his raw ability, and yet lately he’s been giving up more and more snaps to fellow wide receiver Charles Johnson. Johnson only has 93 receiving yards over the last two games, but over the last three weeks he’s been targeted 22 times, which is a pretty healthy number. The Jets’ secondary is good but so is Johnson, so it wouldn’t be a complete surprise to see him put together a good game, especially if he continues to get a lot of looks. Of course at the end of the day it will be up to quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to get Johnson the ball. Only one team in the NFL gives up more points to fantasy quarterbacks than the New York Jets, so the good news is Bridgewater is facing a rather generous squad. Given that the Jets can’t move the ball down the field on offense, Bridgewater may find it easier and easier to pick his spots as the game goes along and his opponents get tired.
