Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; but we preach - TopicsExpress

Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness. (1 Corinthians 1:22-23) “How can I become a witness?” A friend asked me the other day. “You are already,” I said. “The question is what kind?” He was startled, and so I went on to explain that we are all witnessing all the time about what Christ has or has not done in us. The way we live, how we react, and what we say or fail to say about what Christ means to us is a telling witness. What kind of witness would you say you are on that basis? Paul presses us beyond that. He tells how the love of Christ in his heart prompted him to practice what has been called the four “I’s” of authentic witness: identification, involvement, intercession, and incisiveness. Becoming “all things to all people” does not mean compromising our beliefs. Rather, it implies that we should use all our previous experience to identify with people who need Christ. Often, the things we’ve been through, learned, achieved, or attained by the Lord’s grace give us a point of contact. Christ will use everything we’ve been through in both successes and failures. With Christ, nothing is wasted!
