Job Posting - Covington FLORIDA PARISHES JUVENILE DETENTION CENTER POSITION TITLE: Food Services Cook This is a full time position with state retirement and benefits. The applicants can apply online at fpjdc.org We are looking to fill 3 positions immediately. Nature of Work Work activities in this class are of a manual nature requiring manipulative skill and previous experience in order to work effectively. This is work that requires food preparation. Cook works under general supervision for routine tasks and work may be checked while in progress and upon completion. This position is administratively responsible to the Food Services Manager. Illustrative Examples of Work The Food Services Cook: • Assists in preparation of food and snack. • Cleans dishes and mops floor. • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Food Services Manager. Necessary Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills The position requires: • Knowledge of food preparation and cleaning procedures. • Knowledge of standard kitchen tools and equipment. • Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work. • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. • Ability to work with fellow employees. • Ability to establish and maintain appropriate records. • Ability to make food look and taste good. • Ability to work on a rotating basis, all holidays, weekends, and al shift hours. • Maintain a high degree of professional physical fitness and personal hygiene. • Show pride, initiative, imagination, creativity, and self-confidence in performing assigned tasks. • Have above average ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, with youth, other Detention Center Staff members/supervisory staff, outside agencies, and the general public, so as to reflect favorably on the Detention Center at all times. • Within one year of employment, the employee must complete the one week training at Tangipahoa Parish Food Services in Amite, must attend at least one workshop or class presented by the State Department for technical assistance in food service, and they must complete and pass the one week course given by D.O.C. at the Center. Desirable Training and Experience High school graduate or GED equivalency certificate with at least one year experience in food preparation and experience in an institutional setting. Must have a minimum of three verifiable references. Must have a valid Louisiana driver’s license.
