Interpeace supports the active involvement of local, national, and international actors in ongoing collective dialogue and participatory policy research that enable societies facing a risk of violent conflict to overcome its internal divisions. Interpeace assists societies to collectively respond to social, economic and political challenges. Chaired by former President John Kufuor and headquartered in Geneva, Interpeace is supported by bilateral and multilateral donors as well as private funding. The organization is currently active in Africa, Central America, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Interpeace is now seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Research and Coordination Assistant. General Position Summary: The position is situated within the Director-General’s Office of this highly dynamic and innovative peacebuilding organization. It provides an opportunity to support the overall management of the organization as well as the advancement of key strategic priorities. Under the overall supervision of the Special Assistant to the Director-General, the Research and Coordination Assistant provides coordination and substantive support to the Special Assistant and the Director-General in the following areas: Research, Analysis and Development - Conduct research, analysis and prepare substantive briefs on relevant subjects on request and on own initiative. - Monitor reports and resolutions of relevant bodies on topics that are of interest to Interpeace and prepare summaries of them. - Assist in the conceptualization and development of new initiatives. Communications and External Relations - Prepare presentations, talking points and speeches. - Draft inputs for and compile the organization-wide weekly internal newsletter (weekly notes). - Support fundraising efforts and donor liaison in which the Director-General is involved in close coordination with the External Relations Unit. - Draft e-mails, letters and a variety of other documents for both internal and external audiences. - Ensure proper circulation/distribution of information and materials from the Director-General’s Office to other units, as required by the Director-General and the Special Assistant. Coordination - Support the logistical and substantive organization of the semi-annual meetings of the Governing Council as well as other events. - When the Special Assistant is out of the office, meet with the Director-General on a daily basis to ensure that s/he is receiving necessary support and is abreast of items for her/his attention from across the organization. - Organize the Director-General’s calendar and travel including setting up of internal and external meetings. - Prepare background documents for the Director-General’s meetings and travel as required in liaison with other colleagues. - After meetings and travel, draft follow-up correspondence and notes-to-the-file highlighting action items. - In liaison with the External Relations Unit ensure the proper maintenance of contact information relevant for the Director-General and the organization as a whole - Organize and maintain files including archiving of copies of correspondence. Undertake any other assignments, as may be determined by the Special Assistant or the Director-General. Requirements: - Recent graduate with some practical experience (1-2 years of related work and/or internship experience) - A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (a Master’s degree an advantage) - Excellent spoken and written English - Good working knowledge of French - Working knowledge of Spanish an advantage - Excellent organizational skills - Ability to manage many tasks at once, work against short deadlines and remain calm and focused - Ability to effectively develop and manage inter-personal relationships - Ability to integrate in and contribute to a team while also acting on own initiative - High level of political sensitivity - Willingness to complete routine tasks reliably while supporting more demanding projects - Quick learner - Knowledge of peacebuilding and conflict prevention issues - Some prior exposure to developing and/or conflict-affected countries an advantage How to Apply: Qualified candidates may submit their application, including a letter of interest and curriculum vitae to the Administrative Officer at: recruitment(at)interpeace.org.
