This position is located in the Department of Labor, Mine Safety and Health Administration(MSHA) Metal-non-Metal, Hebron,OH field office. This position provides program and administrative support, as well as liaison duties in direct support of the supervisor and a cadre of Mine Safety and Health Inspectors. The purpose of the Mine Safety and Health Administration is to prevent death, disease, and injury from mining and to promote safe and healthful workplaces for the Nations miners. This position is at the full performance level GS-06. - This position is inside the bargaining unit. - Relocation costs will not be paid. KEY REQUIREMENTS •Appointment to this position may require a background investigation. •Requires a probationary period if the requirement has not been met. •U.S. Citizenship. •A fully qualified typist is required •Must be at least 16 years of age. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DUTIES: Back to top The incumbent is responsible for receiving and reviewing completeness of a variety of documents submitted by inspectors. Based on knowledge of automated recording and tracking systems used in the office, and knowledge of the area and mines serviced, identifies and recommends solutions for any discrepancies found prior to submission to the supervisor for final review and/or signature. Ensures completed reports and any additional relevant information, including special assessment review form packages are complete, and comply with proper MSHA format,and are forwarded to the District in a timely manner. Researches, gathers, and assembles information for use by field office staff in special projects, evaluations, conference, and meetings, etc., using various sources such as, but not limited to, the MIS , mine files, and internet. Receives calls and visitors, and determines those which he/she can personally handle, referring others to the appropriate field or district office staff. Keeps close contact with the supervisor when out of the office in order to plan, coordinate, and advise on work efforts or to resolve operating problems. Keeps a log of all calls and visitors in supervisors absences in order to brief him/her via telephone or upon return to the office. Receives, reviews, and distributes incoming correspondence. Expedites record-keeping, tracking, and production of documents, using MSHA- specific automated systems. Uses standard formats or software functions to set up standards documents or format styles that can be retrieved as needed. Develops methods for automating reports, considering the interrelationships and multiple uses of the data, such as accident reports, preparation of performance standards and evaluations, and a variety of monthly , quarterly, and annual reports. Assists inspectors in downloading mine data and Agency directives from the mainframe to the desktop and inspector laptop computers. Performs a variety of administrative functions, e.g., positing and maintaining time and attendance records, preparing necessary personnel documents, requisitioning, and distributing supplies, preparing mileage reports, tracking individual and safety awards etc. Arranges conferences and appointments for the Office following up with staff members to insure that commitments are met. https://usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/356566700
