Job opening in Beijing: Organization: ARMADA EDUCATION Position: Performing Arts and Literacy Educator Armada Education is an experimental learning organization and an international team of progressive educators in Beijing, China. Through innovative instructional strategies, we work to foster life-long learners who are independent, creative, diversely experienced, and knowledgeable about both Chinese and Western cultures. Armada is currently preparing a new project, the Wonder Ship, which will use arts-integrated programming to support children’s language skills and reinforce their self-expression, collaboration, and broad-based learning abilities. We seek qualified and enthusiastic individuals to join our team at this exciting stage of our organization’s growth! Ideal candidates will be comfortable developing and implementing experimental programming as part of a collaborative team of mentors. Experience in education or the arts is preferred, but candidates with diverse interests and backgrounds are encouraged to apply. In researching and implementing innovative curricular techniques, staff will gain a working knowledge of best practices from across the education world. RESPONSIBILITIES Mentor elementary school children in a setting that promotes creative thinking, social awareness, and meaningful communication. Devise, implement, and review arts-integrated programming in collaboration with fellow educators. Assist in design and upkeep of learning environments. In regular staff meetings, provide feedback toward improving educational strategies and curricula. Help orchestrate special events, potentially including multi-day domestic and international travel excursions. QUALIFICATIONS Education: Bachelor’s degree or above (degrees in arts-related fields preferred, but not required). Language: Fluency in English (all programming conducted in English) Professional Background: Experience working with students in school or extracurricular settings, and/or unconventional learning environments. Collaboration: Ability to communicate well within a group that values each member’s opinions and perspectives. Self-motivated to complete independent tasks and to contribute enthusiastically to team projects. Goal-Alignment: Strong desire to contribute to programs that will help children grow both as learners and as people. Values: Community and service-mindedness; empathy towards the needs and experiences of others; flexibility; enthusiasm for learning in many settings. Creativity: Adaptive and imaginative outlook. Drama experience and proficiency in other artistic forms (especially fine art, music, or dance) desired but not essential. COMPENSATION 8,000 RMB (Yuan) per month starting salary. Free housing in an upscale apartment within walking distance to work. Travel and admission to various cultural and historical sites around Beijing. All necessary expenses related to visa maintenance upon arrival in China. If desired, Chinese lessons from a native speaker.
