Job posting forwarded By Noam: Executive Director The Chicago Cultural Alliance (CCA) seeks an Executive Director to lead a growing consortium of Chicago-area ethnic museums, cultural centers, and historical societies (Core Members) partnered with mainstream institutions and agencies. The CCA works toward its mission of effecting social change and public understanding of cultural diversity through first voice perspectives. Through cross-cultural education, public programming, and organizational capacity building programs, the CCA enriches the cultural fabric of Chicago. The CCA offers a new model of collaboration, one that benefits small and large organizations alike and prioritizes the rich perspectives and experiences of Chicagos diverse ethnic communities. The CCA increases the visibility and impact of Chicagos ethnic assets by leveraging partnerships between member organizations and major cultural and government institutions. We provide organizational development assistance to our members in an effort to assure the long-term efficacy of our public education, marketing, preservation, and cultural programs. The CCA has adopted a Civic Engagement Model that guides all of its programming and leads Core Members in an effort to connect cultural heritage and practices to contemporary issues. All CCA programming is guided by the interests and needs of our member organizations and Partner Institutions and builds upon the concept that heritage is an asset. The CCA is not a network of organizations, but rather a community, with strong, trusting relationships that form the cornerstone of our work. General Description The ideal candidate will have direct experience leading collaborations and building community among organizations that are diverse in capacity and mission. S/he will be a strong leader who is excited about working directly with community leaders and has well-developed ability to lead while also being flexible and responsive. The position acutely attends to the CCAs commitment to give voice to member communities. The Executive Director works with the Board of Directors and CCA staff to develop CCAs vision and goals and to implement a fundraising strategy to achieve them. The Executive Director leads the Chicago Cultural Alliance by using innovation, creativity, entrepreneurial strategies, and strong business practices, ensuring that the organization represents its constituencies. The Executive Director effectively manages tight resources, a small staff, and competing priorities to achieve the greatest impact for CCAs Core Members. Responsibilities • Develops and implements fundraising strategies, including grant proposals, sponsorships, earned revenue, and government support • Coordinates, plans, and implements CCA’s programs between Core Members and Partner Institutions • Develops and maintains relationships – with Core Members, with Partner Institutions, with funders, and other key players – to ensure the health of the Alliance • Generates awareness of CCA programs and mission through marketing and public relations, and serves as a spokesperson • Manages CCA organizational finances • Ensures compliance with all relevant laws and regulations • Maintains a keen grasp of the needs of Core Members and an awareness of resources that CCA can leverage for them • Maintains clear communication with the Board and supports Board initiatives and strategic plan • And carries out other responsibilities as designated by the CCA Board of Directors Ideal Candidate will have these qualifications • Demonstrated experience managing the finances, personnel, operations and marketing/ communications of an organization; preference for at least 3 years’ experience, some of which must be for a non-profit organization • Proven ability to coordinate programs with a diverse group of individuals and entities • Experience with fundraising and writing grant proposals • Experience with community and public relations • Knowledge of Chicago, particularly its ethnic communities • Bachelor’s degree in humanities, education or social sciences. MA preferred • Ability to communicate and relate to a wide range of individuals • Superior oral and written communication skills: ability to represent CCA clearly and effectively • Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access Compensation This is a full time exempt position. This position requires a flexible schedule and ability to travel throughout the city and suburbs; applicants must be willing to work evenings and weekends.
