John Heaney of Republican Network for Unity Armagh has also been contacted by people using the Umgola Road, which has a number of homes along it. As you pass the last home the road lights have been off for a period time now, which leaves the road in complete darkness. The Umgola road leads onto the main Armagh-Monaghan Road. RNU Armagh and the local residents view this as death waiting to happen. RNU Armagh will be in contact with the revelant agencies regarding these issues. The people of Armagh are also angry at the recent so called up-grading of Friary Road which has lead to far more tail backs at peak times i.e. school runs and people returning home from work. Cutting two lanes down to one was and is a shambles of an idea, coupled with new road works on Newry Road and a revision plan to change Friary Road AGAIN! RNU Armagh believe the money wasted in consulancy fees could have easily been used to improve the safety on Umgola Road/Monaghan Road and many more roads around Armagh by installing Streeting Lighting.
