John Jay Hooker recommends an article on Tennessean. Herb Slatery, Governor Haslam’s legal counsel, has said that the amendment to authorize judicial Retention elections, which deprives the People of the Right to Vote in a Popular Election is, the most important Judicial Issue of my lifetime.” Mr. Slatery is right about that, but the fact is he, Governor Haslam and Governor Bredesen are apparently determined to spend any amount of money necessary to deprive the People of their Constitutional right to judge those judges that judge us, in a contested election. The time has come for the People to educate themselves so they can stand up to the lawyers and to the moneyed interests who want to deprive all of us of our existing constitutional right to elect the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals in the same manner that we elect trial judges, legislators and Governors. If you read this statement I hope that you will respond and determine to help those of us who are going to stand up and fight both Governor Haslam and Governor Bredesen, who are trying to take our Constitutional rights away, so that Governors can appoint judges instead of having them elected by the People.
