Join your neighbors in Northeast Ohio and send a message to criminals that your neighborhood is organized and fighting back against crime. For one night, Tuesday, August 5, turn your porch light on for the evening in support of this nationwide effort. A well-lit neighborhood can deter crime and drug activity. Remember, “Lights on means lights out for crime!” National Night Out Against Crime at Steelyard Commons In support of this initiative, bring your family out for the eighth annual National Night Out Against Crime at Steelyard Commons. It all takes place from 5 to 9 p.m. in the Home Depot parking lot. The event is designed to: • Heighten crime, drug and violence prevention awareness. • Generate support for and participation in local anticrime programs. • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships. The Cleveland Police and Fire Departments will be on hand with a police cruiser, ambulance and fire truck. Dunk your favorite Second District Cleveland Police Officer for only $1. The Cuyahoga County Sheriffs Department will have its prisoner transport bus on hand that guests can tour. The Cleveland Bomb Squad is bringing its bomb-detecting robot. The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office will be doing Operation Child Protect where parents can register their children with the state. Binky the Police Clown will be entertaining the crowd, and there will be face painting, glitter tattoos and more than 60 community groups, stores, and restaurants at the event. Enjoy free food from Jimmy John’s and Steak ‘n Shake, as well as NORTHERN OHIO RECOVERY ASSOCIATIONS PEER TO PEER TEAM VOLUNTEERING AT THE FREE HOT DOG STAND, Coca-Cola and water.
