Jonathan commissions 1,000 homes for policemen President Goodluck Jonathan has stressed the need for proper maintenance of infrastructure in the country. The president spoke yesterday at the commissioning of the 1,000 unit police housing estate, Sunday Adewusi Housing Estate, Dakwa, Dei-Dei, Abuja. According to him, it is sensible to always avoid eventual capital costs by paying regular attention to all existing assets. Jonathan, who was represented by Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo, commended the police force for successfully executing the housing project. “It’s instructive and commendable to note that these 1,000 units of three, two and one bedroom houses at Dakwa, Dei-Dei, Abuja, were developed through the Public Private Partnership between a reputable developer and the Police Cooperative Society Limited which financed the project,” he said. He noted that the Force had built 2,000 housing units in two years, saying however that “officers and men who are beneficiaries will pay for the houses through the National Housing Fund (NHF) loans. The Nigeria Police Force has access to this facility, through the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN)”, the president said. Earlier, Police Affairs Minister Abduljelili Adesiyan said the estate was built to enhance the welfare of the officers and men of the Force, adding that it would make the Force to effectively discharge its responsibilities. In his remarks, Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Abubakar said the project was one of the numerous housing units to be built by the Force in all the states of the federation.
