Joshua emailed--Im Josh, and Im a 32 year old LAKA. I lost my leg when Iw as 17. Im missing my two outer quadriceps on the outside, although the flexors and extensors are intact. Ive struggled with staying physically fit as I have gotten older, because as I drop weight and tone my fit isnt as good. I also have problems with heavy sweating. My questions are as follows: How do you adjust for the slippage? I wear an Icecross liner with a skin saver underneath, and I have socks. When the fit is looser, I use two skin savers under the Icecross. It doesnt feel as solid, and it sometimes slips. It gets very frustrating if Im hiking or doing other outdoors activities. Can anyone offer any advice? I currently use a suction system with a ringed liner and an air pump. How do you deal with sweating, and is CertainDri the best choice? In addition to being an amputee, Im also a cancer survivor. My step-Mother(lab scientist) says that the active ingredient in CertainDri is aluminum, which is highly discouraged for use with cancer survivors. It works reasonably well, but antiperspirants are the leading cost of breast cancer(look it up on cancer.gov). Since were already prone to secondary malignancies, were not supposed to use products with heavy aluminum content. Does anyone else have suggestions? Do you find its better to shave your stump or leave it hairy? Im a hairy guy... think lumberjack, and the hairs regularly get caught on my liner. I pull quite a few of them out. They also pull inside of my liner from time to time. Do you find it better to shave or leave the hair on? Thanks in advance for any information you can offer on these subjects.
