June 19th Event - Intermodal Freight Transportation in NE Florida Lessons Learned from the CSX National Gateway Project Quintin Kendall, recently appointed CSX Vice President of State Government and Community Affairs, will be the June 19 Northeast Florida WTS luncheon speaker. In his previous role as regional vice president for state government affairs for the Mid-Atlantic region, Kendall generated substantial support for major infrastructure investment projects including the CSX $860 million National Gateway project, a major public-private partnership creating a double-stack intermodal freight rail corridor linking mid-Atlantic ports and Midwest distribution centers. Kendall successfully coordinated company-wide efforts to broaden recognition of the benefits of freight rail and led CSX efforts to support growth at the Port of Virginia. He is recognized as a trusted partner among policymakers and brings extensive community relations, policy, political and management experience to his new role. Prior to joining CSX, Kendall served as chief of staff to the Honorable Mary Peters, US Dept. of Transportation Secretary. While at USDOT from 2002 to 2009 he focused on efforts to reform federal highway and transit policy and improving transportation safety and maritime issues. As Deputy Assistant Secretary of Budget and Programs at USDOT he coordinated department-wide efforts to improve financial and personnel management, procurement and e-government initiatives. He served as the first Executive Director of the National Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Study Commission under USDOT Secretary Norman Mineta. Mr. Kendall will discuss his experience in helping form the public private partnership for the National Gateway project, his work with the Port of Virginia and how these best practices could be applied in North Florida, and outline other CSX plans for this region. From his USDOT background, he will offer his insight about the federal surface transportation programs. CSX, based in Jacksonville, is one of the nation’s leading transportation companies, providing rail, intermodal and rail-to-truck transload services. Their network spans approximately 21,000 miles with service to 23 eastern states, the District of Columbia and two Canadian provinces. The CSX network connects more that 240 short line railroads and more than 70 ocean, river and lake ports. The luncheon is from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Florida Dept. of Transportation Urban Office Training Center, 2198 Edison Avenue, with complimentary parking. Members are $15; nonmembers, $20.
