Just a little information for those who think its ridiculous to delay school for EXTREME cold weather: I listen to the bus radio EVERY DAY. You have no idea how many times Ive heard bus drivers say, He got on the bus without a coat on. She was wearing shorts. Those kids have to wait outside in that weather. Plus, it takes FOREVER to get those buses cranked, ready and HEATED for the kids. Also, we have to make sure the school is adequately heated (which can be a problem sometimes). The fact of the matter is this: southerners are just NOT used to this kind of cold. We can function in the teens and twenties, but when it gets to single digits and the wind chill makes it nearly 0 degrees or below, we MUST take precautions. What if a bus were to break down on the route? Those kids and the bus driver would get terribly sick from being stuck in the cold. I am thankful for a wonderful superintendent who takes the well-being of kids (as well as teachers and staff) so seriously. I could not be more proud to work for Madison County Schools. ❤️
