Just a reminder to be careful and pay attention to your surroundings. This happened to a good friend of mines parents on Monday night. They live in LH on Arborside (between Royal and Whitehurst). We went over to Wendis last night to see the construction work and to look at her 1900 pictures from their trip. When we were coming back home and heading up our alley toward our garage, Dad noticed a car behind us. It was 9:00 and dark. We decided to go ahead and pull into our driveway but not open the garage. We let the car pass (it was some kind of SUV). We decided to back out of the garage and just be sure they had gone on. When we backed out we discovered the car had stopped behind our fence where we would not see them as we were in the driveway. They already had their back up lights on. They had not gone on down the alley but evidently were waiting there for us to enter the garage and turn off our car and then they could do whatever they wanted to do. We would have had no way to defend ourselves. So – now we were sitting in the alley behind this car that had stopped. The car sat there….we sat there……didn’t know what to do. They finally went on up the alley but never turned into a driveway (home) and we could see them for the 2 blocks that our alley is. I got the license. We came in and called the police patrol for our neighborhood and also 911. We should have called 911 from the car while we sat there (what 911 told me) and that way they could have gotten someone to come to the neighborhood and look out for the car. So – today the patrol from our neighborhood came by and verified that the license plate was not anyone from the neighborhood. In fact the plates belonged on a truck that was registered in Houston, TX – so evidently stolen plates. It was not a truck they were in. I am glad for Dad’s carefulness about everything. His carefulness sometimes drives me insane but he was certainly smart to do what he did. Something just told him that the car didn’t look right. It appeared from nowhere and suddenly was behind us in the alley. I didn’t even notice it until we were almost to our driveway and Dad mentioned the car behind us and what did he think we should do. He considered continuing past our house but it’s a very long alley and having to come back seemed “over cautious”. Actually nothing should be over cautious.
