Just an update from last nights board meeting: Since we have agreed to release Dr.DeFranco from her contract we need to decide how to proceed with filling her position. At the last board meeting the BOE made it clear they were willing to listen to public opinion on this matter. They encouraged participation at last nights meeting and also at the September 3rd meeting. Last night they held to their word. The BOE shared several options for heading forward and asked for comments or reasons to head in a specific direction. They also made it clear that sharing services was not on the table for Margate. Options would be: 1. Advertise and Hire a new Supt. immediately 2. Hire from within Immediately 3. Get an Interim Supt. to allow us time to do the interview process. (this would allow for in house candidates to be considered as well) There may have been more options but they are the ones that stood out to me. The BOE plans to take action at the Sept. 3rd meeting. So, if you would like the BOE to listen to your input please come out to the Sept. 3rd meeting because they will listen to the public before going into closed session. The general feeling from the audience was to allow some time for the structural changes that have recently been made this summer to settle and not to search for a new Supt. that has another vision for our district when we have people who understand our district and community. Of course this is just my take on the meeting so if you want to hear what happened you can always go to the Margate District website and listen to the Board Meeting. Have a great day!
