Just got back from seeing Exodus: Gods and Kings, released in UK - TopicsExpress

Just got back from seeing Exodus: Gods and Kings, released in UK cinemas yesterday. Cinematically epic, artistically beautiful, well cast, well acted, seriously minded and complex, engaging and thought-provoking, devastating and triumphant, referencing aspects of both the Old Testament Scriptures and Jewish tradition, it is all the same seriously and fundamentally flawed. How so? Well, a thoughtful movie (even if they are the wrong thoughts!) requires a thoughtful review, so further comment will have to wait till next week. For Grace Baptist Church Wood Green folk, this evening I developed a tentative plan to give a brief series of messages exploring four themes in the book of Exodus at the beginning of the New Year: Slaves, a Saviour, Suffering, and Salvation. In the mean time, Im not saying you should try to keep people away from this movie. I am saying you should direct them from this movie (many of them having probably watched it or planning to!) toward the Scriptures. Dont excorciate the movie to the point you forget the potential of gospel opportunities and neglect effective evangelistic engagement.
