Just got off the phone with our Saranac MIddle School principle. I asked her if the rumors my 8th grade daughter had been hearing were true; if you refuse the test you will automatically be put in AIS. She clarified her answer (which is basically Yes). 1. If you refuse and currently receive AIS, you will automatically continue to receive AIS. 2. If you refuse and do not currently receive AIS and have respectable grades and your teachers dont recommend you for AIS, you will still fall under the AIS umbrella in an AIS monitoring status. Your grades will be monitored and should they slip, you will be placed into AIS. You remain in the AIS monitoring state until the next state exam is given (for ELA, that would be 11th grade when the regents is given). When report cards come home there will be an additional paper that is attached with the monitoring information/results included. 3. If you refuse the test and dont have the greatest grades you will be placed in AIS automatically. What to do, what to do...
