Just heard news that Johnny Dyer has passed away, very sad news! He, along with Rick Holmstrom were an early influence on me after hearing their old-school sound at the Commie back in the early 90s. I was 10 days away from playing with him (along with Lynwood Slim who has also since passed…spooky) at Bonnie Doon Hall back in the Blues Bash Dance Party days. He suddenly got pneumonia and was in hospital where they werent sure if he would pull through which left me scrambling with half of the 300 tickets already sold. He did recover and I even spoke with him on the phone a while later...he was very polite and kind. The good news is I was able to book James Harman (who I was trying to book in the first place, with Rusty Reed as the opener) as a replacement and we had our best show (turned out to be our last) ever and we have been friends since. R.I.P. Johnny!
